Cowhide
Cowhide is the natural, unbleached skin and hair of a cow. It retains the original coloring of the animal. Cowhides are a natural product/by-product of the food industry from cattle. Cowhide can also be processed into a leather, which can be used to make such things as shoes, wallets and leather jackets.
Measurements may vary in size, 80" to 89" in length and 60" to 75" in width. Do not machine wash or dry clean. Vacuum with head brush, brush with a hard plastic brush or shake outside to remove dust and dry particles.

We often feature pictures of the actual cowhide you will receive. Those are the cowhides under which we write the hide's individual size. If the picture does not display the size it it because that is a generic picture. We will try to match hides that look as similar as possible to the generic color categories. Please expect some difference between the pictures on the site and the ones actually shipped. Since cowhides are a natural product, color patterns are never identical and sizes vary from animal to animal.
Additionally, please understand that due to the fact that these are natural animal skins they will have occasional marks, fire brands, and scrapes. These blemishes are not defects but simple scars that add to the natural characteristic of these rugs.
Our cowhides are chrome tanned using methods improved by the Brazilian tanneries over time which yield the best quality in the industry. Our skins do not have a strong odor or the thin substance of hides tanned in Argentina or elsewhere.
Up keeping of hair-on hides is simple and hassle free. Vacuuming can be done from time to time to remove dust and loose hair. In case of any spillage on the hide, wiping with a wet cloth should do the job. In case of very humid environments, it is recommended to lay the hide out in the sun once or twice a month.
Cowhides are a byproduct of the meat industry. No cow is harvested solely for the skins so by trading cow skins we are only making use of secondary part of an animal that was raised for its meat. Our African animal skins are also taken legally and imported with all necessary documentation. None of the African animals are endangered species and some are actually harvested in culling events where overpopulations need to be thinned.
